Russian & Soviet Editorial Review
In the editorial review of "Baba Yaga: The Wild Witch of the East in Russian Fairy Tales," customer feedback highlights a well-rounded appreciation for the book's content and presentation, despite some criticisms regarding the size of the illustrations. Readers commend the author for crafting a rich anthology that combines fascinating folklore, captivating artwork, and engaging storytelling. It's evident that Baba Yaga is a beloved character in Russian folklore, resonating with readers who admire her strong, independent, and sometimes whimsical characteristics. The introductory section of the book has been particularly praised for its well-researched insights into Baba Yaga's roots and her significance within the broader narrative of Eastern European fairy tales. Reviewers appreciate the accessible writing style, which allows for easy reading, making it an excellent starting point for both casual readers and those looking to delve deeper into Baba Yaga's lore. The array of stories that feature her either as a main character or in supporting roles has sparked joy among readers, many of whom fondly recall earlier encounters with these tales. However, a recurring feature of the feedback is the disappointment regarding the small size of the illustrations, which some readers feel diminishes the overall visual experience given the book's potential for stunning artwork. Despite this drawback, the compilation is deemed essential for fans of Slavic mythology and those seeking a unique perspective on conventional fairy tales, marking it as both an educational and delightful read. **
